Alistair Wagner — founder, author and sole editor of PureNovus
- Diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in January 2025. Still taking metformin. Everything published here is written from that position, not about it.
- Not a physician, dietitian or any kind of clinician. No medical qualification is claimed anywhere on this site, and none should be inferred.
- Author of Breaking the Pattern (Amazon Kindle, 2026) and of the PureNovus guide series.
- Primary research: a sixteen-day continuous glucose monitor self-experiment — 7,665 readings, 41 logged meals, baseline days first — published in full with its limitations, including the result that contradicted the author.
- Based in South Africa, writing primarily for readers in the United States.

For journalists and podcast hosts: I am available as a patient source on type 2 diabetes, blood sugar self-tracking and continuous glucose monitoring. I speak from my own measured data and will say plainly what it cannot support. I am not a clinician and do not offer medical commentary.
Much of what exists online is either oversimplified, overly promotional, or disconnected from the underlying research. My goal is straightforward — present what the scientific literature actually shows, in plain language, so readers can make informed decisions with confidence.
Why PureNovus Exists
PureNovus began with a personal realization.
Over the years, I watched members of my family struggle with metabolic health. My father, brother, and sister all have Type 2 Diabetes. A close friend has Type 1 Diabetes. Despite regular medical care, there was a persistent gap in understanding — not about prescriptions, but about how daily habits, nutrition, sleep, and stress regulation could influence long-term outcomes.
In January 2025, after reviewing my own blood sugar markers, I realized I needed to better understand how metabolic health works and what the research genuinely supports.
What I discovered was not a lack of information — but a lack of accessible, structured explanation.
PureNovus is the resource I wish had existed when I began researching this topic in depth.
My Approach
I am not a medical doctor. What I do at PureNovus is read clinical literature on metabolic health and blood sugar regulation, work out what it actually says, and translate it into something readers can use.
The process is consistent:
- Reviewing peer-reviewed clinical research
- Comparing ingredient dosages to those used in human trials
- Evaluating study design, population, and duration
- Distinguishing between mechanistic theory and demonstrated outcomes
- Separating marketing claims from research-supported evidence
I focus on clarity, transparency, and long-term thinking — not quick fixes.
